Bios
Mike McKenna - guitar and vocals
Mike McKenna is one of Canada's top blues and rock guitarists. As part of the early 60s Yorkville scene, Mike was a major force in the establishment of the electric blues in Canada. He has been wowing crowds for almost 60 years with such seminal bands as McKenna Mendelson Mainline, Luke & The Apostles, Downchild, Ugly Ducklings, Diamondback, and the Guess Who. Mike was inducted into the Canada South Blues Society Hall of Fame in 2013, and nominated for the "Blues with a Feeling" Maple Blues Lifetime Achievement Award in 2023. In addition to Slidewinder, Mike still performs regularly with Luke & the Apostles, as well as the McKenna Moonah Blues Duo. |
Tom Robertson - vocals, guitar and harmonica
Tom Robertson grew up on the music of Albert King, Ten Years After, and all the blues greats. His first professional gig was with the Dutch Mason Blues Band. He went on to perform with various groups in the Brampton region throughout the 70s, as well as playing for rockabilly legend Rompin’ Ronnie Hawkins and award-winning country artist Michelle Wright. Tom has a long association with Mike McKenna, having played with Mainline and the Mike McKenna Band, as well as Slidewinder. |
Jim Morgan - bass
Jim Morgan is a veteran musician, composer, and recording engineer. As a bass player he's held down the bottom end in a diverse range of situations, including on the Tommy Hunter Show, recording with Ian Tyson, as a member of Maestro Guido Basso's band, and even touring with The Monkees. He has received 4 SOCAN awards for television scoring and an Emmy for audio production. |
Dave Breckels - drums
Dave Breckels landed his first professional job at 16, backing Jack London from The Sparrows (later known as Steppenwolf.) He was a member of the band Shooter, playing on hit records including "I Can Dance" and "Train." He has gone on to perform with a huge range of artists including Brutus, Jack De Keyzer, Wendel Ferguson, Michael Fonfara, Chuck Jackson, Cheryl Lescom, and Rik Emmett to name just a few. Dave is a veteran of studio and TV work, including a stint on CBC's Gene Taylor backing guests like Chita Rivera, Doug Henning, Salome Bay, and Mickey Dolenze from The Monkees. |
Jay Moonah - harmonica, vocals and guitar
Jay Moonah is a singer, harmonica player, and multi-instrumentalist with more than 30 years experience on the Ontario music scene. He has played with countless bands, including indie-roots-rockers Uncle Seth and retro-folk act The McFlies. In 2021, Jay's one-man blues band Broke Fuse was nominated for a Maple Blues Award in the New Artist of the Year category. In additional to Broke Fuse and Slidewinder, Jay also sings and plays with Rockabilly Blue, and with Mike as one-half of the McKenna Moonah Blues Duo. |
